Solid Edge, which was developed by Siemens, is a 3D design application that can create complex and detailed CAD designs and other graphical projects. Solid Edge was first released in 1995 and was designed to work with the Microsoft Windows Operating System. Like AutoCAD, TurboCAD and other CAD programs, Solid Edge can be used be professionals and businesses in the manufacturing industry. Solid Edge comes complete with a multitude of features and components, including a solid modeling system, a drafting function and an assembling modeling function.
Solid Edge is used to manufacture products and parts but creating a complex and detailed design and then sending information to printers and other processing machines that can create these programs.
Siemens Solid Edge was originally created by Integraph, which was later acquired by Siemens PLM Software in 2007. Solid Edge is very similar to SolidWorks and the Inventor program from Autodesk, both of which are competitors to the Siemens Solid Edge program.
